“Yoga isn’t about being perfect. It’s about listening to your body” Real yoga for busy mums

Jenny is a regular face on our Yoga Happy app community feed. She posts the most wonderful sped up videos of her daily practice with her little boy toddling about alongside her. Real yoga at its very best. As a fellow mum I love how she shows us that yoga doesn’t need brightly lit studios or fancy leggings and I’m so grateful for her.

Jenny's Story

Hi, I’m Jenny and I’d like to share my experiences of yoga with you.

Yoga has been part of my life for many years. It has seen me through high, lows and everything in between. I would say I used to have a fairly on off relationship with yoga, it was always been there but not consistently. I would say the consistency has only come in the last year.

When I first started yoga, I did so because I thought it looked cool and I wanted to be able to do all the poses I was seeing people doing online. I wanted my practice to be perfect, and I would push myself to do things I definitely couldn’t do. I think this took away my enjoyment and stopped me having consistent practice.

But now I’ve come to realise, yoga isn’t about being perfect. It’s about listening to your body and what it needs on any given day. Also being a mum to small kids means I have to fit it in round them. So sometimes i practice amongst the chaos with my kids playing in the background or climbing over me (they do also join in), sometimes I just sit and breath, sometimes i choose sit in child’s pose instead of doing another chaturunga, and other days it’s a more powerful practice, and I even surprise myself by getting in to a pose I’ve not been able to do before.

Yoga is such a powerful tool and I love that it’s a part of my life. And I love what Hannah has created too, she makes yoga so accessible.

So that’s a bit about me and my experiences with yoga and I hope maybe it might resonate with you.
